Michigan Care Improvement Registry Reaches Agreement with Michigan Veterans Affairs to Exchange Immunization Data

On November 3rd 2022, the Michigan Care Improvement Registry (MCIR) started sharing current vaccination records with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ Veterans Health Administration (VHA) through the CDC Immunization Gateway (IZ Gateway). In the first two weeks, MCIR received more than 10,000 immunization records for veterans. This collaborative effort to connect with the VHA will improve visibility of vaccination rates and improve veterans care by assuring their records are complete and accurate. This will also alleviate the need for our veterans to take their VA vaccination records to their pharmacy or care providers. This data exchange between MCIR and Michigan facilities of the VHA is one of many ongoing health equity efforts by the Division of Immunization to improve our ability to identify and address health disparities and public health barriers related to vaccine preventable diseases while improving the inclusivity of outbreak responses.
