MSMS STATEMENT: Michigan State Medical Society Praises Governor Whitmer for Supporting the Needs of Michigan Patients and the Medical Community in Budget Recommendations

“On behalf of the Michigan State Medical Society, I would like to extend my sincere thanks and gratitude to Governor Whitmer and her administration for including $65 million in new funding for increased Primary Care Medicaid reimbursement rates as well an additional $130 million in enhanced rates for Medicaid and the Healthy Michigan program in her 2024 Executive Budget Recommendations.

“Additionally, the Governor’s proposed budget also funds a range of other initiatives aimed at improving health outcomes including a plan to have Michigan manufacture low-cost insulin, a proposal to address maternal health gaps by increasing funding to the Healthy Moms, Healthy Babies program, as well as initiatives to close racial health disparities.

“The inclusion of these recommendations is a testament to MSMS’s ongoing efforts to advocate for priorities that are important to the medical community and the patients we serve. Speaking on behalf of the society, I am grateful that our voice has been heard and is now reflected in the governor’s recommendations, and I am confident that with our continued efforts, we will continue to experience success in advocating for policy that advances Michigan’s health care system while putting the needs of the patients we serve first.”
