MSMS had the pleasure of working with Nicholas Sirhan, fourth year medical student at Central Michigan University, as the MSMS Public Policy Fellow. The following is a statement from him on the value of his fellowship.
“From the outset of my medical journey, I’ve been drawn to public health policy, a passion that deepened during my clinical work throughout the pandemic. To be able to work closely with those who fight for our patients and for the health of the public is part of the reason why I chose to go into medicine.
Witnessing the critical role of advocacy in medicine has been incredibly rewarding. During the fellowship, I was particularly fascinated by the public health senate committee meetings, hearing testimonies on health policy reforms, both advocating for our patients and defending the rights of physicians.
Moving forward into residency and beyond, I plan to carry this appreciation for advocacy and public health into my practice, striving to be not just a clinician, but also a champion for policies that promote health equity and community well-being throughout the state of Michigan.”
The MSMS Fellowship Program is funded by the MSMS Foundation Kevin Kelly Endowment fund. If you want to support future fellows, you can donate at https://connect.msms.org/Donate/MSMS-Foundation.
