The Michigan State Medical Society (MSMS) formally welcomed M. Salim Siddiqui, MD, PhD (Wayne County), a board-certified radiation oncologist, as the new President of MSMS. Doctor Siddiqui was installed as president during the 158th annual meeting of the MSMS House of Delegates in Dearborn, MI on April 22rd.
“It is a privilege and an honor to be inaugurated to serve as the 165th President of the Michigan State Medical Society, an organization that has not only made tremendous contributions to the health and well-being of Michigan citizens, but also, works each and every day to improve the lives of physicians, so they can best care for the people they serve,” Doctor Siddiqui said. “Since its founding, this society has been committed to physicians and protecting our sacred physician-patient relationship. The MSMS not only provides us tools and support to make a positive impact in the lives of our patients and communities, but also provides us a voice to advocate for our fellow physician, our patients, and our communities. That collective voice lets us drive policy changes and create a better future for healthcare. I want to remind non-member colleagues of how our collective voice is greater than our siloed whispers, and to address the challenges facing healthcare in our state, we will need the loudest collective voice that we can achieve, and so I would ask any non-member physicians to join to make a difference and improve the lives of your colleagues and your patient, but certainly you’re free not to. I look forward to the year ahead to serve my fellow physicians, our patients, and our communities.”
A graduate of the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, Doctor Siddiqui will serve a one-year term as president of the society. Prior to his term as president, Doctor Siddiqui served a one-year term as president-elect of the society. He also served two two-year terms as the Young Physician Representative to the MSMS Board of Directors, a position he was first elected to in 2015 and then again in 2017.
Doctor Siddiqui is a member of the Henry Ford Medical Group and is affiliated with Henry Ford Health. He served as President of the Wayne County Medical Society of Southeast Michigan (WCMSSM) from 2019 to 2020 and currently serves on the WCMSSM Board of Directors.
